Professional Experience
I spent nine years (2010-2018) contracting within a multi-disciplinary practice in Newcastle NSW as a behavioural therapist and parenting coach. I worked with children, their parents and schools to improve outcomes related to parenting stress, relationship conflict, social difficulties, anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder and learning disorders.
It was rewarding to tailor this work to the individual needs of the children and their family, and get to know them well. I liaised with my clients’ schools, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, paediatricians and psychiatrists to achieve positive outcomes, and gained substantial professional knowledge working in this collaborative manner.
Since 2019, I have contracted within another large multi-disciplinary organisation, working in homes and residential facilities with NDIS clients across the Ipswich, Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast regions. My clients experience a broad range of mental health challenges, related to physical disability, neurological conditions, intellectual disability, complex trauma, and childhood disorders. I am again fortunate to collaborate with my clients' other professionals such as Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Dieticians, Physiotherapists and support workers to facilitate positive outcomes. I continue this work part-time for the extensive experience, knowledge and skill development it provides, which I can bring back to all of my clients.
Private counselling within my own practice has allowed me to work with individuals, couples and families who have a range of significant challenges and past events impacting daily life. Since March 2021, Limestone Counselling has given me the privilege of connecting with local clients and spending more time working close to home in the Ipswich community. I highly value having established long-term, trusted working relationships with so many of my clients and their families.
